FAQ

WHAT IS CLINICAL CODING?

Clinical coding is the translation of medical diagnoses and procedures into universal clinical code numbers. The diagnoses and procedures are usually taken from a variety of sources within the medical record, such as the transcription of the doctor’s notes, laboratory results, radiologic results, and other sources.

This data is then used for:

  • Funding and reimbursement
  • Research & statistics
  • Resource allocation
  • Health services planning
  • Epidemiological studies
  • Education
